Class Description
Charles Allen studied psychology at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. While there, he worked in theater, film, and commercials. Upon being accepted to and enrolling in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, he moved to Los Angeles. However, the day he was intended to start classes, he withdrew and began training intensively with master acting coach Eric Morris. Though he had studied with other coaches, Charles focused solely on this approach because of its attention to the actor as an individual and the practical tools contained within. Charles trained with Eric for 19 and half years: always returning to the studio when not performing. When an acting instructor was needed at Queensland University of Technology, Charles was recommended by Eric as a master practitioner of his work. Since arriving in Australia, Charles has worked extensively in film, television, commercials, and stage. He is personally endorsed by Eric to teach his method and is one of Australia’s leading practitioners in the craft. Week 1: Introduction to theory of the approach. Exploration of the 3 practical tools that can be used in training and performance. Identification of personal obstacles related to a specific piece of material. Week 2: Application of one of the practical tools explored in Week 1 to material. Introduction to Preps and the practical usage of them in relation to written material/text. Week 3: Further exploration of written material. How to overlap working solo into working with a partner. Operating free of tension with a stronger understanding of your instrument. Week 4-6: Sense Memory and its practical use. Deeper exploration of freeing the instrument and applying previous weeks work into written material. Each student will be guided by Charles into gaining a much deeper understanding of the Eric Morris Approach. This course is limited to 10 students only.
